What Commure and Compassus Announced About Home Based Care Referral Automation

Commure said on 13 October 2026 that it and Compassus together built Commure Orchestrator, a referral automation product now running across 79 Compassus programmes in 19 states and handling more than 500,000 referrals a year. The announcement says referral to decision time fell 64 percent, missed referrals fell 22 percent, admissions rose 6 percent, and manual processing time went from about an hour to under ten minutes. It says the product pulls referrals in from fax, email and insurance company portals onto one screen, covering more than 1,400 team members, more than 8,500 referring facilities and 2,500 insurance plans, and that about 80 percent of team members reported high satisfaction in early surveys. Evan Kramer, the Compassus senior vice president of innovation and operational excellence, is quoted saying the focus is getting patients home from hospital and settled into care as soon as they are ready. Dan Warner, the Commure president of enterprise, is quoted saying the handoff to post acute care has run on fax machines for decades.

Why the Commure and Compassus Referral Results Matter to Post Acute Care Leaders

The admissions figure is the one that pays for this. A 6 percent rise on more than 500,000 referrals a year is real revenue, and it is the kind of number a finance team can check against its own books. The 22 percent cut in missed referrals is the care side of the same thing, because a missed referral is somebody sitting in a hospital bed they no longer need. Two cautions. Compassus helped build the product, so this is a founding partner reporting on its own work rather than an outside test. And the announcement gives no starting figures, so a 64 percent cut could mean four days down to one or an hour down to twenty minutes. The processing time line suggests the smaller version.

How We Would Research the Commure and Compassus Referral Results

The source gives us the starting point. This is how we would build the next layer of research around it.

  1. We would ask Commure and Compassus for the starting figure behind each percentage, because a percentage with no baseline cannot be compared with our own.
  2. Then we would ask how much of the 6 percent rise in admissions came from faster decisions and how much from referrals that used to be lost completely.
  3. We would also ask what Compassus got for helping build the product, since a founding partner and an ordinary buyer are not in the same position.
