Clinical Decision Support (CDS)
Also known as: CDS, CDSS, clinical decision support system
Software tools that provide clinicians with knowledge and patient-specific information to enhance clinical decision-making at the point of care.
Clinical decision support (CDS) systems present relevant clinical information, alerts, reminders, and recommendations at the point of care to assist physicians, nurses, and other clinicians in making decisions. AI-enhanced CDS applies machine learning models to patient data to generate risk scores, flag potential diagnoses, recommend tests or treatments, or alert clinicians to drug interactions and contraindications. CDS is regulated as a medical device when its functions cross into clinical diagnosis or treatment recommendation.
