- Research focus
- This group asks how far a partnership actually went: a lab look, a signed licence, a trial that uses the AI measurement, or a medicine in a patient. AstraZeneca is at the signed licence stage with Owkin, for research support work rather than anything that touches a patient. Its careers site lists a team it calls Enterprise AI, so some of this work is being built in house, and a buyer or investor should ask which jobs go to a partner and which stay inside. The press releases on its media centre are mostly trial results for medicines, and those are separate from the AI work.
The SEC filer record for AstraZeneca PLC, read on 2026-10-31, gives the ticker AZN on the New York Stock Exchange and lists the annual 20-F report filed on 24 February 2026. No change of control was found on the company's own pages or in that record. Checked on 2026-10-31.

Owkin licenses its K Pro AI scientist to AstraZeneca for three years
Owkin said on 13 May 2026 that it signed a three year licence agreement with AstraZeneca for K Pro, which Owkin calls its AI Scientist for biopharma decision making. Owkin says it will build biopharma agents that run inside the AstraZeneca infrastructure to support competitive intelligence and decision making, with the aim of cutting manual analysis while keeping the company's governance and security rules in place. Thomas Clozel, the Owkin chief executive and co-founder, is quoted saying the company believes the future of the pharmaceutical industry is agentic. The announcement gives no payment terms and no figures for the licence itself.
Why it matters: The useful detail here is where the software runs. Agents built inside AstraZeneca's own systems means the drug maker keeps its data and its security rules, and that is usually the sticking point that kills these deals. A three year term is also longer than a trial, so somebody signed a real budget. What it does not tell you is what the agents are for beyond competitive intelligence and decision support, and neither company has put a number on time saved or on research decisions changed. Competitive intelligence is also one of the safest jobs you can hand an AI agent, because a wrong answer costs a meeting rather than a patient.
Careers and Qualifications
What to Know Before Applying
Work areas: The careers site lists hiring across BioPharmaceuticals, BioPharmaceuticals R&D, Oncology, Oncology R&D, Operations, Information Technology and a group it names Enterprise AI, plus the Alexion and Fusion Pharma businesses. It shows openings in Canada, India, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, and publishes guidance for candidates on using AI in an application.
Qualification signal: For the AI roles here, the useful experience is shipping something inside a regulated drug company, where every tool has an owner and an audit trail. Building a clever model in a startup counts for less than getting one approved for use by a research team. Ask which business area a role sits in, because Enterprise AI and Oncology R&D are different jobs with the same title.
Check current roles at AstraZeneca. A careers page is the source of record for openings. This profile does not claim a role is open unless the company lists it now.

Evidence questions
- What stage did the agreement reach, and were any payments or milestones disclosed?
- Which programs or molecules does the AI work actually touch?
- Has anything from the collaboration reached a clinical endpoint rather than a press release?
Regulatory and workflow questions
- If AI produced a measurement used in a trial, has a regulator accepted that measurement?
- Which regulatory submissions, if any, depend on the AI work?
- Who is responsible for the quality of an AI-generated result inside a trial record?
Data and contract questions
- Whose data trained the model, and what did the drug company contribute?
- Who owns a molecule or design the collaboration produces?
- What happens to the shared data if the collaboration ends?

FDA Clearances on Record
No clearance is linked in this directory. That is not automatically a mark against the company. Some products support the people doing the work instead of reading a patient image or signal themselves.
